Hi, I am a software engineer, a naval architect and a researcher in machine learning for marine robotics.
I am a researcher in machine learning for marine swarm robots. I am part of the Agents Interaction and Complexity Group in the Department of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton, UK. My current research is in developing algorithms for a swarm of marine robots to adapt their behaviour to damages sustained by individual robots or to changes in the environment. As part of my research, I designed and developed ASVLite, a high-performance simulator suitable for applications such as - simulating a swarm of autonomous marine vehicles or developing optimal vehicle control strategies using reinforcement learning techniques. The simulator has low computational overhead and hence is suitable for onboard simulation for applications such as online learning for adaptation to changes in the environment. My paper describing the implementation of ASVLite has been accepted for publication in IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) - 2021, and a preprint version is available here.
I am also an experienced software engineer and naval architect with 14 years of work experience in the industry. I currently work as a Principal Software Developer at Lloyd's Register, UK, developing specialised software that are used for design approval of ship hull structures. Before this, I worked as a Design Engineer for Ship Hull Structures at Larsen & Toubro and have been part of 3 ship design projects.
I am one of the inventors of WO2020245460A1 "Method and system for design assurance", December 2020.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kerala, India, in the year 2006 and later completed my Master of Science in Offshore Floating Systems from the University of Strathclyde in the year 2012. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD (part-time) in machine learning for marine robots at the University of Southampton.
I am a Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the Engineering Council, UK, and a member (MRINA) of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects, UK.
